One-on-One Support Program
We are working on improving our One-on-One Support Program. If you would like to join the committee, please email morgan.shupe@funrecdaycamp.com.
One-on-One Support Program History
NEBCA promotes participation within our community to help children develop social and physical skills through activities such as sports, crafts, music, and drama.
In 1998, NEBCA developed a community-linking project to promote social acceptance of all children. The goal of the One-on-One Support Program is to support children in participating alongside their neighbourhood peers.
NEBCA has run the One-on-One Support program for children with disabilities and who require additional support since 1998, and has welcomed children with additional needs in the Fun Rec program for many years prior to that.
One-on-One Support Program Registration
If your child has additional support needs (for example, works with an Educational Assistant at school), please apply for the One-on-One Support Program.
All families must complete the online application form, including the One-on-One Support Camper Information Form. After reviewing the submitted information, our Program Manager will contact families to schedule a meeting.
Fun Rec currently has two full-time One-on-One Support Leaders available each week. Each leader can support one camper per week.
To help as many children as possible participate:
- Applications are limited to a maximum of two weeks per camper
- Families may join a waitlist for additional weeks
- Additional weeks may be offered in June if space and staffing allow
Please note:
- Participation in a meeting does not guarantee placement in the program
- Placement decisions are based on staffing, camper needs, safety, and program capacity

Application Steps for One-on-One Support Program at Fun Rec:
- Apply using Online Registration:
Use the online registration platform to apply for all desired camp week(s) for your camper. - Complete Required Forms:
Fill out all required registration forms, including the short version of the One-on-One Support Camper Information Form. As part of the form, families will be asked to rank their preferred camp weeks in order of preference. - Review Program Expectations:
Within the One-on-One Support Camper Information Form, families must read and acknowledge the One-on-One Support Program policies, expectations, and support limitations.
The policy can also be reviewed below. - Confirm Registration: Follow the registration steps through to the end and select Submit to complete your registration request. No payment will be required at this stage.
- Detailed Camper Information Form: After registration is submitted, Fun Rec staff will follow up with a more detailed version of the One-on-One Support Camper Information Form. Families are encouraged to take their time completing this form thoroughly, as it helps staff better understand the camper’s support needs and prepare for a successful camp experience.
- Pre-Registration Meeting: Families will be contacted to schedule a meeting with One-on-One Support Leaders to review the camper’s support needs. Attending a meeting does not guarantee that we will be able to support the camper’s participation.
- Placement Review: Fun Rec staff will review all submitted information and notify families whether their child has been offered placement in the One-on-One Support Program.
- Payment Process: Once placement has been confirmed, payment for the One-on-One Support Program will be requested to finalize the registration process.
One-on-One Support Policy (Adopted 2025)
While our staff work hard to adapt camp programming for campers with disabilities and/or additional needs, at this time Fun Rec Day Camp is unable to provide support with:
- Toileting
- Changing clothes or dressing
- Lifting or carrying
- Administering medication of any kind
If a camper requires this type of support, a parent, caregiver, or family member must be available to provide it.
With support, campers must be able to:
- Take trips on public and charter buses (as this is how Fun Rec organizes out-trips)
- Join groups throughout the day and participate in activities
- Wear a life jacket if they are not able to pass the swim test
- Wear a Fun Rec T-shirt or wristband throughout the entire day
- Follow basic safety expectations, including responding to staff and staying on the sidewalk
Families of campers with disabilities or additional needs must attend a pre-registration meeting with One-on-One Support Leaders to assess if the One-on-One Support Program can meet the camper’s needs. Attending a meeting does not guarantee that we will be able to support the camper’s participation.
