This Year at Fun Rec!

PLEASE NOTE: The North East Burnaby Community Association (NEBCA) made the decision earlier this year to cancel all Fun Rec Day Camps and Rec’n’ Read programs for the 2020 summer season due to COVID19, following the advise of the Health Authority of BC.

The Fun Rec adventure begins every year in July, and runs for 6 consecutive weeks until August. The camp is based out of Stoney Creek Community School from 9am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday. During camp we have use of the class rooms, the Community Room, the gymnasium, a kitchen and the surrounding fields and playgrounds. During the week we run organized activities with small outings to places around the community. Each week has a different theme, to which many of our activities and crafts are built around. We conclude each week with a camp wide themed Special Event and full camp field trip!

This year our out trips will be to the following places!

Week 1: Vancouver Aquarium
Week 2: Watermania
Week 3: Science World
Week 4: Greater Vancouver Zoo
Week 5: Playland
Week 6: Cultus Lake Water Park

We aim to leave on our out trip as soon as we can first thing Friday mornings and return by 3:15pm in the afternoon. In case of delays due to traffic, parents will be notified as soon as possible.

Leader led out trips occur during the week which can include but are not limited to the following destinations:

  • Pool trips to City Center Aquatic Complex or Eileen Daily
  • Charles Rummel
  • Blue Mountain Park
  • Peanut Park
  • Maple Grove Crescent Park
  • Hume Park
  • Sapparton Park
  • Queens Park Petting Zoo
  • Bowling
  • Laser Tag
  • Koko’s Activity Center

A Brief History of Fun Rec

Fun Rec is a summer recreation program that has been offered to the children of this community since 1982. The Northeast Burnaby Community Association (NEBCA) has kept the cost of registration well below the cost of running this fun packed program so that everyone in our community has the chance to attend summer camp.

At Fun Rec, we aim to help develop social and physical skills in a fun and safe environment. Activities include but are not limited to sports, crafts, music, cooking, and drama. Children who attend must be between the ages 5 (having completed kindergarten) and 13 (having completed grade 7) years of age.
