One-on-One Support Program
We are working on improving our One-on-One Support Program. If you would like to join the committee, please email morgan.shupe@funrecdaycamp.com.
One-on-One Support Program History
NEBCA promotes participation within our community to help children develop social and physical skills through activities such as sports, crafts, music, and drama.
In 1998, NEBCA developed a community-linking project to promote social acceptance of all children. The goal of the One-on-One Support Program is to support children in participating alongside their neighbourhood peers.
NEBCA has run the One-on-One Support program for children with disabilities and who require additional support since 1998, and has welcomed children with additional needs in the Fun Rec program for many years prior to that.
One-on-One Support Program Registration
If you are registering a child with additional support needs (for example, a child who works with an educational assistant at school), please register for the One-on-One Support Program. All families must complete the online registration form, including a detailed camper profile. Our Program Manager will reach out after reviewing your camper profile to schedule an assessment meeting.
We have two full-time One-on-One Support Leaders who can each assist one full-time camper per week for each week of camp.
To allow as many children as possible to participate,
- Registration is limited to a maximum of two weeks per camper
Families may join a waitlist for additional weeks. In June, additional weeks may be offered to families already on the waitlist if space allows.
Please contact us with any questions about the program – morgan.shupe@funrecdaycamp.com.
One-on-One Support Policy (Adopted 2025)
While our staff work hard to adapt camp programming for campers with disabilities and/or additional needs, at this time Fun Rec Day Camp is unable to provide support with:
- Toileting
- Changing clothes or dressing
- Lifting or carrying
- Administering medication of any kind
If a camper requires this type of support, a parent, caregiver, or family member must be available to provide it.
With support, campers must be able to:
- Take trips on public and charter buses (as this is how Fun Rec organizes out-trips)
- Join groups throughout the day and participate in activities
- Wear a life jacket if they are not able to pass the swim test
- Wear a Fun Rec T-shirt or wristband throughout the entire day
- Follow basic safety expectations, including responding to staff and staying on the sidewalk
Families of campers with disabilities or additional needs must attend a pre-registration meeting with One-on-One Support Leaders to assess if the One-on-One Support Program can meet the camper’s needs. we will not be able to assess whether the camper can attend camp. Attending a meeting does not guarantee that we will be able to support the camper’s participation.
