Volunteer Coordinator Job Posting

Join the Northeast Burnaby Community Association (NEBCA) summer team and help create a fun, safe, and engaging camp experience for children in our community. Staff work together to plan and deliver a 7-week summer program serving approximately 70–90 children each week. 

The Volunteer Coordinator plays a key leadership role by supporting the Camp Program Manager and helping coordinate the camp’s youth volunteers. This role helps ensure volunteers are organized, supported, and meaningfully involved in camp activities while assisting the leadership team with daily program operations.

The Volunteer Coordinator will also take on the role of Camp Leader in the afternoons and final 3 weeks of camp, helping run activities and supervise campers when additional leadership support is needed.

This position offers valuable leadership, supervision, and program coordination experience, making it a great opportunity for students interested in education, recreation, leadership, childcare, or community program management.

Prospective candidates must have been enrolled in full-time studies at a college, university, or trade school during the past academic year and be returning to full-time studies in September.

Expected Work Hours:

  • Expected dates: May 11 – August 14, 2026
  • Typical Hours: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday–Friday
  • Location: Stoney Creek Community School, 2740 Beaverbrook Crescent, Burnaby BC, V3J 1J4

Work hours may vary slightly depending on program preparation, volunteer coordination needs, program activities, and field trips.


Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and support the camp’s youth volunteer team.
  • Help orient and guide volunteers in their roles and responsibilities.
  • Assign volunteers to assist with camp groups and daily activities.
  • Act as a mentor and point of contact for volunteers throughout the program.
  • Support volunteers in assisting with activities such as crafts, sports, games, and special events.
  • Work with the Camp Manager to help ensure the daily program runs smoothly.
  • Provide leadership and support to recreation leaders and volunteers.
  • Assist with organizing daily schedules and activity planning.
  • Help monitor volunteer attendance and assist with tracking volunteer hours.
  • Participate in staff training, including behaviour management, First Aid, and conflict resolution.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and assist with program evaluation.
  • Supervise campers during activities, field trips, and water activities.


Qualifications:

  • Must have been enrolled in full-time post-secondary studies during the past academic year and returning to full-time studies in September.
  • Experience working with children or youth.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor and support youth volunteers.
  • Experience in camp programs, recreation leadership, or volunteer coordination is an asset.
  • Comfortable being in and supervising water activities (e.g., splash parks, pools, or water play).
  • First Aid certification is an asset or willingness to obtain before the program begins.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.
