In 1998, NEBCA developed a community-linking project to promote social acceptance of all children. Our goal is to include special needs children with their neighbourhood peers. Children naturally teach their friends that all children are special.
NEBCA has run a program for special needs children since 1998, but has included children with emotional needs in the Fun Rec program for many years before this date. Since 1998 we have hired two extra staff members with specific training that work directly with children with special needs. This way we are better able to accommodate children with different types of needs.
NEBCA promotes full inclusion within our community for special needs children to help them develop social and physical skills, using such tools as sports, crafts, music and drama.
The number of children that we can register in this program is two per week. We have two full time Special Needs Leaders who can each assist one full time or the equivalent part time/full time camper each week for six weeks. We want to accommodate as many children into this program as we can, so we initially limit registration to maximum of two weeks per child. If you would like more weeks, you may wait list and will be notified if there are any spots left over.
To register your child in our Special Needs Program, please contact the Project Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org or (778) 984-2908 to set up a registration appointment.
You will be required to complete a general registration form (which you can find on our website) as well as a profile for your child (which we have hard copies of at Stoney Creek Community School). Please bring your child’s BC Care Card and payment in the form of cash or a cheque. Post dated cheques will not be accepted. Registration is taken on a first come first served appointment basis.
